With roots dating back to the thirteenth century, the Feira da Ladra walked site on site until it locks in Campo de Santa Clara street, in Alfama district.
The market starts at Arco de São Vicente, an arch near where the famous Tram 28 stops. It is dedicated mainly to trade in frippery, second-hand and craft objects. Hand-made artisan goods, CD's, books, clothes, stamps, coins, military objects, antiques and furniture is all on display here, so the occasional bargain is still possible. It takes place weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the morning until the evening.
From the market, the impressive Santa Engrácia Church or the National Pantheon, can be seen standing proudly just a short walk away.
