If the idea is to know the most traditional side of Lisbon, then Alfama district is mandatory. It's easy to get lost in the maze of narrow streets of the neighborhood that survived the 1755 earthquake and that gives address some of the most "castiços" (peculiar) establishments in the capital. Every curve are discovered alleys, squares and courtyards, some of them very beautiful as Calçadinha de Santo Estevão, and also the most ancient fountains of the city, as the Chafariz Real and the Chafariz de Dentro. On Tuesday and Saturday the walk through Alfama extends to the Campo de Santa Clara to visit the flea market, a kind of Portobello alfacinha.
